Hello! I'm an Irish nerdy social awkward trans man. You can often find me nose deep in a book or jrpg, or watching hours of youtube videos. Hehe, maybe that's why I have such a big backlog of books and games.
I have psoriasis, and some form of arthritis, probably psoriatic arthritis. Although it's not diagnosed as such yet, I have appointments to attend this year, but with what's going on, I hope they still happen. I'm thankful for ibuprofen.
I'm currently reading Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett. I've had it for a few months, but was in a reading slump. I just picked it up from the shelf the day before yesterday, and now I'm over half way through.
I'm also replaying Etrian Odyssey III. This was supposed to be a new game plus playthrough, but when I loaded it up, the game glitched and lost my savefile. So I'm replaying it, and am going for the ending I got the first time I played it. Then I might go for the other two endings. Or I might go back to Dragon Quest VIII on the 3DS, which I'm quite a ways into and haven't beaten yet. But for the last few weeks, all I've wanted to play have been Etrian Odyssey games.
A lot of the videos I like to watch on youtube are booktubers, playthroughs of games I wouldn't play myself (like Resident Evil or scary games), or science videos like scishow or pbs eons, and sometimes yugioh videos too.
What I've been playing
Jun. 21st, 2026 03:55 pmI've not played many games this year, practically none, and I haven't beaten anything either. I just was not in the mood for games. But I started a replay of Animal Crossing New Horizons on Switch since I lost my save, and I'm thinking I might have to get rid of the game, since I seem to be addicted to it.
I've also started replaying Pokemon Legends ZA on Switch a few days ago and I'm already at almost 40 hours. I've done less exploring than in my first playthrough, but that's not unusual for me in a replay. The first time I played ZA, I had the shiny Mareep from the sidequest on my team, and I randomly found a shiny Magikarp. This time around, I'm not using the shiny Mareep, I'm using a non shiny Ampharos, and I randomly found a shiny Litleo, which is now a Pyroar! First playthrough, my starter was Tepig, and this time I picked Totodile, a cute little guy.
There's also been replaying of picross games on the Switch. Just a whole lot of replaying.
I haven't even read since I finished Sins of Empire by Brian McClellan on 30/05/2026 (European date format). I've finished eight books so far this year, and I want to finish at least four more. For the last few years, I've been working on reading at keast fifty books a year, and last year, I didn't reach that goal. I got a bit burned out on reading, and found no joy or anything in it. I didn't even want to reread any of the books I like. I've been putting too much stress to read a certain number that I resorted to reading short, quick reads, that, while not bad or anything, weren't always what I wanted to read, and I avoided longer or more dense books.
Here's to expanding what I read by reading less!

End of 2025 catch up post
Dec. 29th, 2024 06:28 pmIt's been a bit of a stressful year. In October of 2023, I received a letter from my landlord stating they wanted to sell the apartment I was living in and I had to be moved out by the end of April 2024. Considering I'm on disability and how expensive rents are in Ireland, plus my autism making it hard to even start looking for a new place, meant quite a lot of panic.
I am very lucky I had some people help me, and there was a social worker at the local county council who I've never even met, who pushed for me to get a newly built apartment on the ground floor. The rent is something even I can afford (as it's a council apartment), and I moved in in late April just before my deadline. I hopefully will never have to move again.
I've read 69 books and 6 short stories this year, same as last year, but not as many as 2022, where I read 86 books. I also beat 11 games, all on the Switch. None picross games, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Final Fantasy (as part of the pixel collection).
In 2025, I'm hoping to beat at least twelve games and read at least 25 different books by 25 different women from around the world.

Almost half way through 2023 update
Jun. 19th, 2023 12:51 pmIt seems like 2023 just started, I sometimes find myself writing 2022 by accident.
Last year in 2022, I had set some reading goals. I took part in two reading challenges as they overlapped. The 52 book challenge on goodreads and the 50 book challenge on resetera (where they generally had to be 100 pages or more). The resetera challenge was also to see 50 movies but I only managed to see nine. I also set myself a challenge of reading 23 books by 23 women and a book from 40 years ago (that one was because I turned 40 last year). I crushed the reading challenges, and had fun doing so. I read 86 books last year (although some were short), including almost all of the Rivers of London series (I had read one of the series back in 2018).
This year I set myself the same challenges, but I'm not doing as well as last year, although I have watched more movies (16 so far this year). I keep stressing out over what to read. I keep feeling I have to read certain books, even though I'm more of a mood reader. I keep trying to make a list of books to read from my backlog, but it just reminds me of all the good/recommended books I haven't read yet in my kindle backlog.
For the goodreads challenge I still have to read 23 books and for the resetera challenge I still have 35 to go. And while I can easily list 23 and 35 books I want to read, I can also list 100 I want to read.
So I'm thinking next year I won't do any reading challenges at all, I'll just stick to reading for enjoyment.
In non reading news, I got a new bed, it has a wonderful firm mattress so no more back pain from a too soft mattress for me.
I'm over 50 hours into Dragon Quest XI S on switch, just leaving the town with the arena. I really took my time at the casino. But I'm taking a quick break to replay Pokemon Black, which is one of my favourite games.

Reached 600 books read on goodreads
Apr. 9th, 2023 10:53 pmI've finally reached 600 books read in goodreads (although I know I've read more than that in my life, like the animorphs books, I know I read the first one and a bunch more of them but I don't remember which ones, an unremembered number of manga volumes of Bleach, Naruto and One Piece, and a book I remember plot details of but not the name of the book).
So I know I've read more than 600, it's just I've read at least 600. A lot would have been shorter books from when I was a child, like Roald Dahl books, and I'm only getting into certain series as an adult like The Wheel of Time series.
I hope to read a lot more, and get through a big chunk of my kindle backlog. I have so many good books on my kindle just waiting to be read.

Stuck in a hospital for over a month
Nov. 10th, 2021 06:15 amI've spent quite a lot of time in hospital lately. My first visit was because of very bad pain in my left knee. After maybe a week, I got sent home with a walker (the first one I've ever used). A week after coming home, I was sitting in the living room and went to stand. But I didn't. I couldn't get up off the chair and now there was pain in my right leg. I called an ambulance, was taken to the hospital, and here I am, over a month later, still in hospital. No idea as to the cause but I'm undergoing physiotherapy to properly walk again.
Things that have really helped during my stay:
Kriss Kross puzzle books - my favourite kind of puzzles
My kindle - I've mostly been reading old favourites, and now I'm reading the new Garth Nix book, Terciel and Elinor.
My 2DS XL - I really wanted to replay the first Xenoblade Chronicles, and I had sold my Wii copy a couple of years ago, so I bought the 3DS version for 20. I really love this game, although the camera controls on the 3DS version could be better.
My phone and an internet connection - if I couldn't use the internet and youtube, I'd be so bored.

Writing a late post because I can't sleep.
Sep. 9th, 2021 01:38 amI finished my course earlier this year, and I got my results a few days ago. The first time I sat the leaving cert maths exam was in 2002, and I barely passed it. This time I got the equivalent of a B. A great result for someone like me who struggled all year with the subject.
I also decided to take a year out between doing these exams and applying for college courses, what with covid and some health issues I've been having. I'm looking into getting some sort of walker, preferably a walker or rollator with a seat attachment, as I can't walk far without pain due to arthritis but I don't want to go straight for a wheelchair, as good as they are, I want to walk as long as I can. I've got my eye on two particular courses, both at Dundalk Institute of Technology (I like what's on offer there and the bus stops directly at the entrance). It's their arts degree where you choose two from english literature and culture, history, archaeology and politics and society. The other course is their BB in Business and Management, where I have the option of starting spanish, which is something I've been wanting to learn for a few years now. The way applying to courses work here in Ireland, I can apply for both, and possibly get an offer for both, although I can accept only one.
Now that it's after midnight, I can say it was my birthday yesterday on the 8th, and I turned 39. I just ordered a secondhand kindle paperwhite 2018 for myself. I've never owned a kindle before, although I have used the kindle app. I don't like staring at my phone trying to read books, so hopefully the paperwhite will be easier on my eyes.

What A Year
Dec. 17th, 2020 01:08 amYear started off well, ended up really shit. I managed to progress in school, and now I'm in the repeat leaving certificate class, studying english, maths, business and art. They're not too hard, except I'm not good at art at all, and I find the history of art to be a bit boring. Boring's ok though. We're doing our christmas exams at the moment, with history of art and maths tomorrow.
I've watched a lot of movies this year, some were repeats, and some I've never seen before. So far I've watched 43 movies for the first time. I was also planning on reading the same amount of books as last year (last year I aimed for 30 and read 32). This year I only read nine, but I am currently on my tenth book, Hollowpox: The Hunt for Morrigan Crow.
I was also supposed to go visit my sister in Essex, but of course with everything going on right now, it just wouldn't be safe or right to go. So I'm planning a very quiet christmas.
I've also only beat two games this year, despite planning on beating five. Once I beat three more games, I'll be at a total of 125 games. I'm currently replaying Etrian Odyssey Nexus, and once I'm finished, I'll get back to Dragon Quest VIII, Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice.
I hope things are going well with you!

just some stuff
May. 19th, 2020 06:42 amI've not been doing much in the last 10 days. Mostly been playing Picross 3D Round 2. While I've played all of the Picross e games released in english, and Picross DS, I never played the first Picross 3D. It took some time for me to get into it, and while I didn't actually like it at first, now I'm loving it. I've put over 50 hours into it and I'm thinking of buying Picross 3D.
In non-game related things, I have an interview on friday, as a bit of a formality, for the leaving certificate course my school will be running from september. I am also in dire need of a hair cut, but I won't be able to get one before the interview. I'm glad I went for the level 3 course from last september, because the exams for the leaving cert 2020 students have been cancelled and replaced with predicted grades. I was meant to be doing one leaving certificate exam (history) this june, and now I'm not. In september I'll be studying english, maths, business and art for the leaving cert. Those who haven't already done history will be also studying it, but I don't have to, giving me some free time. I'm thinking of studying an extra subject, like home economics. Unlike home economics for the junior cert, there is no cooking involved. It covers nutrition, textiles, social stuff. I've looked at past papers for it and even without studying or looking at a book, I could answer quite a lot of questions for it.
If you want to see leaving cert past papers for yourself, check out https://www.examinations.ie/exammaterialarchive/.
I've also managed to narrow down a list of ten games I aim to beat this year.
Bravely Default
Dragon Quest VIII
Suikoden
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona Q2
Pokemon FireRed
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice
Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap
Picross 3D Round 2

It's been a while
Apr. 23rd, 2020 04:15 amMy oven/grill combo has been broken
for some weeks now, so I bought a
mini oven for just over 100 euro.
Much cheaper than a full oven replacement,
plus I don't bake, it's just for cooking
things like pizza, single portions of
lasagna, burgers, etc.
Plus now I no longer have to rely on
just a microwave and kettle.
I've been replaying through Etrian Odyssey
games. I completed Nexus in total, then I replayed Untold,
completion for that is on hold while I continue
my replay of EO3. My playthrough of Dragon
Quest VIII is on hold, even though I'm enjoying it.
Just that EO was calling me more.
I've been staying in mostly. Schools are
closed here, as they are in many areas.
I do have school work to do, but we have to
wait before we can return it to the school.
I've also been watching a lot of playthroughs
on youtube. Mostly Loading Ready Run stuff.
I don't watch much tv. The only thing I've been
watching on tv has been the last season of Elementary.
Just a couple more episodes til it's done.
I woke up from a dream recently very disappointed.
In my dream I had been coming down a flight
of stairs that had books balanced on the railing
with the spines of the books faced upwards.
I paused to check a section of books, since
in my dream I was looking for books I needed
for a class, put my hand on three books,
looked at a person, and told them that these
three books were three of the best books I had
ever read. I remember that the first book's plot
was that a young woman inherits a bookshop
and learns to jump into the different stories/worlds.
And on the front cover she was dressed as a pirate.
HOWEVER, these books don't exist in the nondream world.
They're not real, and I am saaad.
I want to read them, but I can't. :(

End of August Update
Aug. 30th, 2019 12:08 amI've been doing pretty well recently.
I've read 24 books in my reading challenge and I'd like to read 6 more (my reading challenge is 30 books). And I've beaten 6 games this year, I'd like to hit 12 games beaten in total since I started playing games, so I'm trying to make a list of 6 games, but I have a lot of good games, so I've only picked 3 so far.
I'm also going back into education. I'm starting a return to education/general studies course, which includes maths, communications and the only exam subject, leaving cert history. The leaving cert is a state exam secondary/high school students do at the end of the final year of secondary/high school. People not in school can repeat, or maybe take just one or two subjects to fulfill higher education course requirements, like doing a science, maths or language. I'm hoping, after doing this course, to come back and do more leaving cert subjects, because it'll help me get into university, since the first and only time I did a leaving cert, I just stopped caring and quit studying. I sat the exams and didn't do well at all. I'd like to study english and history in university.
My May Update
Jun. 2nd, 2019 01:50 pmI traded in some games (including Pokemon Diamond, Pokemon Platinum and Final Fantasy DS), which got me quite a lot of store credit. I used that credit to buy some games and a phone. I bought World of Final Fantasy (PS Vita), Bravely Second (3DS), and Bayonetta 1 and 2 (Wii U). The phone I bought is a Blackberry Classic. I've always wanted a Blackberry phone, and I had been considering either a Nokia E5 or a Blackberry Bold 9900, but then I saw the Classic, checked it out on gsmarena, and bought it. It looks great, feels good in my hand, works great, and can sideload android apps, even though it's not an android phone.
I've also beaten two games since I last posted. Etrian Odyssey V and Pokemon Omega Ruby, and I replayed Etrian Odyssey Untold.
So far I've read 18 books this year (listed on my goodreads page) and reread two books (Jurassic Park and Goldenhand).
I'm currently reading Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb, and I'm going to play Phoenix Wright - Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice.
I'll be visiting my sister on the 13th of June, so that'll be fun!

Life Is Not Giving Much To Talk About
Apr. 6th, 2019 09:00 amSince I last posted, I've beaten two games, Etrian Odyssey 3 and Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal World Duel Carnival. I've also sold the Ace Attorney games I had on DS. As much as I liked them, once I beat them, I never played them again. Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth was released here in 2010, I beat it and then never touched it again.
I've been too lazy or not up for social stuff to go to any Yu-Gi-Oh! events, right now I'm just waiting for the new banlist to be posted. I've made a few plans for April and May that I hope will motivate me to do something other than read on the internet. I'd like to beat or at least make progress in the games I've listed (I have a list of ten games I'd like to beat this year).
In each of the next three months, I plan to
See two new (to me) movies
Read two new (to me) books
beat two unbeaten games
April Goals:
Movies:
Shazam (seen)
Avengers (ticket bought)
Books:
Last Stand of Dead Men by Derek Landy
The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers
Games:
Pokemon Omega Ruby (working on 8th badge)
Etrian Odyssey V (on 19th of 25 floors)
May Goals:
Movies:
Get Out
Hunger Games: Catching Fire
Books:
Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch
Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett
Games:
Dragon Quest VIII: The Journey of the Cursed King (just got a boat)
Bravely Default
June:
Movies:
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2
Books:
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
The Binding by Bridget Collins
Games:
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice
Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask

End of 2018/Start of 2019 Life Update
Jan. 7th, 2019 03:18 amSo there's been halloween, some drama, christmas and new year's since I last posted.
Drama: My brother collapsed, vomiting blood, not long before christmas. He had previously collapsed while out shopping a few days before this, and felt woosy after a run on another occasion. It also turned out he had vomited up blood on the day of the second collapse. I called emergency services for an ambulance. I had to beg and convince him to go, reminding him that if it had been anyone else, he would have made them go. Seemed to be the only thing to work. Turns out he has some form of lymphoma. He's responding well to treatment, but if he hadn't gone to hospital, he would have died, and very soon. His blood pressure was so very low due to blood loss. But he's finally getting serious about his health and not just working out.
Christmas: My sister had booked flights for me to visit her and her boyfriend for christmas before our brother's collapse. He told me to go, so I went and did have fun, but of course I was still worried about him. He's at home now, but still has more treatments in the future.
Weight Watchers: At the last meeting before christmas, I was up 5 pounds due to stress eating (a big problem with me). I'm trying to be good but once I had chocolate for christmas, I kept wanting it. It's all or nothing between me and chocolate, it seems.
YuGiOh: There's some upcoming regionals in Dublin that I'm planning on going to. It's easy enough for me to go to, I just catch the 101 bus from Drogheda to Talbot Street in Dublin, then it's a straight walk to the game shop the regional is being held in.

I cried in a McDonald's toilet stall
Oct. 17th, 2018 04:04 pmI went to Dublin to attend a Yu-Gi-Oh! regionals, but I had misred the time it started and ended up not being able to enter. I ended up in a McDonald's where I just burst into tears in a toilet stall. It's been years since I had done that. Not really over missing out on playing, stress and life and things just overwhelming me.
Afterwards I went to a Smyth's toyshop and bought two Yu-Gi-Oh! 2018 Mega Tins and pulled two Firewall Dragons and a Saryuga Dread Dragon, which cheered me up a bit, as people had kept recommending them to me.
I forgot to buy a belt, as I had bought a pair of jeans in my size but they're loose enough to make me concerned that they'll slid down. I guess the diet is working.
I went to a sneak peak for Soul Fusion on the 14th. I was hoping to pull or trade for a Condemned Witch, but I don't think anyone pulled one.
At my last weigh in at Weight Watchers on thursday, my weight remained the same. Better than gaining, but a bit disappointing.
My budget for my London trip took a big dent as I had to buy a tv licence. If I didn't buy it, there's a fine of 1000 euro. :( I'm going to have to borrow money now.
Sorry this post isn't really saying much, I'm trying to compose my thoughts, and figured I'd say what I've been up to, before posting something more in depth.

Coming out update
Oct. 6th, 2018 04:45 amFinally went out presenting as male in male clothes, dispite not having a binder or even sports bra. It helps I have some facial hair from PCOS and I'm also overweight, so if you din't know me and didn't hear me speak, I just look like an overweight guy. :) I also came out to my brother as ftm trans and he took it really well.
In gaming news, I unlocked Gracie's shop in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. I also got the boat in Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King. I also received all but one of the yugioh cards I ordered (the last one will probably arrive next week, but not in time for the regionals this sunday).

October and Goals
Oct. 3rd, 2018 07:22 am1. Save 150 for vacation to London at the end of October.
2. Lose 4lbs (a lb a week).
3. No chocolate until Halloween/London.
4. Beat Dragon Quest VIII on the 3DS.
5. Finish reading the two books I started on kindle and start another (Plastic Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg and Under Strange Stars by Gareth Moore, start Fire Above, Fire Below by Garth Nix and finish rereading Magician by Raymond E. Feist).
6. Go walking more outside.
I go to Weight Watchers (I know other people like Slimming World or keto or paleo or just counting calories but it does work for me), and I was down only half a pound on my weigh in day on thursday. Little disappointing but better than going up.
My goal weight is 10 stone or 140lbs from 20 stone or 280lbs. I'm only 5 foot so I'm very heavy right now. My current Weight Watchers daily points is 32 with 42 weekly points.
My goal in avoiding chocolate until Halloween is not only for weight loss purposes but to also save some money for when I visit my sister in London.
